Edinburgh is the final destination of our Scotland trip. I think the best ending of an outdoor escape is visiting a beautiful city. Apart from visiting the beautiful sights – like the castle -, you can do some souvenir shopping and enjoy bars and restaurants (a gastro pub in our case).
After 4 days of enjoying the impressive Scottish scenery we ended up in Leith. Leith used to be the port of Edinborough, but is now part of the city. A hip and popular neighbourhood with awarded restaurants and eligible water front flats. Big plus: it’s only a short drive to the old center of town, where you’ll find the castle, must walk the Royal Mile and buy yourself a tartan shawl and some shortbread cookies. We only had 16 hours in Edinburgh, but it was perfect to check out the highlights, walk the city and enjoy a fantastic dinner.
For dinner we went to the gastropub The Scran and Scallie, a lovely family neighbourhood pub that was recommended to us by a local. It serves delicious traditional fish & chips, a veggie spelt and lentil burger and a ham hock terrine with pig ears! (we had to try those of course).
We spend the night in the Malmaison hotel – a former brother – that is now stylishly updated to a modern stay. The building is beautiful, the rooms stylish and the bistro serves very delicious sandwiches.
P.S. Check Visit Scotland if you’re planning your trip!
