After cold nights in tents, altitude sickness on the high passes and 21 loop-roads we finally arrive in Leh. One of the most beautiful sights in Leh is the Shanti Stupa. While we visit we learn it was built quite recently by Indian and Japanese Buddhists. Of course the building itself is beautiful, but the view from this location is a-ma-zing! Not only because you finally feel you have arrived at this special destination, also because the steepy steps up are a tricky health test, especially in this altitude. Don’t think you can “do” this attraction in 30 minutes. You need a good few hours, not just to get there, but mostly to enjoy the view. On a clear day you overlook the village with patches of green. The sandy dry environment. And to make this picture even more jaw-dropping, snowy white mountaintops in the background. Wow!
