We love Rajasthan. It’s got everything you think of when thinking of India. My favorite city in Rajasthan is Udaipur, but Jodhpur definitely comes second. The buildings are beautiful and so old, the fort is huge, but most attractive is definitely the color of the city: blue. They say each city in Rajasthan has its own color: Jaisalmer is gold, Jaipur is pink and Jodhpur blue. You get the best views from the top of the fort. I know, it looks far and high especially with the heat, but it’s totally worth the walk up. All the blue little buildings look like an abstract work of cubism. Plus, it’s unbelievable how far the city stretches out into the desert. They say only Brahmans painted their houses blue, indicating they were from the highest caste. Nowadays people believe it repels mosquitos and so more and more houses are covered in blue. What to do when you’re there: walk up the castle (more about that tomorrow), take a ricksha ride through the little streets and make a pit-shop-stop at the market square for glass bangles.
