Another must-see along the Causeway Coastal Route is Dunluce Castle. A spectacular ruin on an even more spectacular location. The remains of this palace are located on the very steep end of a rock in the middle of the sea. Impressive? Yes. Creepy, a bit. Especially when you’re the only visitor on a grey day walking from what used to be the castles kitchen to the master living room. On an old painting I see how not so long ago these walls were covered in silk and gold thread, the floors laid with marble and the ladies of the house paraded in heavy velvet gowns to impress visitors from all over the country. If you close your eyes you can even hear a violin play somewhere in the background, the crisping sounds of the once so gigantic fire place and the laughter of the knights and kings while drinking their Guinness. Would they have had Guinness by then I wonder?
Next on our route: Londonderry, an impressive city that…well, you can read all about that next time on our travel blog!
