I grew up on Curacao and when I refused to eat as a child my mother used to threaten me with Sopi di Mondongo. This soup was mixture of vegetable stew, bouillon and stomachs and hooves from goats and cows. (and now she wonders why I turned vegetarian?). As soon as we walked into the Marshe Bieuw, the old food market, in Willemstad I expected to see this on the menu. But no, each stall served a delicious mix of vegetables, rice, chicken and fish. Of course with some banana hasa on the side. Make sure to stop by for lunch or a snack and mix with tourists and locals in this fairly priced open air restaurant with communal tables. You’re not only in for some quality food, but will probably leave with great stories and new friends as well.
