Told you! Iceland is B-E-A-utiful! We started our first day early with a Jeep tour with Iceland Rovers. Our guide, Asgeir, showed us an ice lake at sunrise in Pingvellir National Park, the exact spot where some 1200 years ago (930 BC to be exact) Norseman founded the eldest parliament. From there we toured the mountains, saw the magical geysers, stood one of the world’s largest glacier – Langjökull – and watched how turquoise blue water found its way through lava at Hraunfossar and Barnafoss watefalls. But what makes this island so special is the light. During the winter months you only have 4 hours from dusk till dawn. But really the whole day is like one amazingly long sunset that gives the snow covered mountains, skies and clouds a soft pink glow. More about the Eyjafjallajokull volcano (yes, that one) tomorrow!
