Sometimes your eyes play tricks on you. Or your mind just doesn’t know what’s in front of you. Ever had that? Well I have! In the Death Valley Badlands we stopped at what seemed to be a snowy field or an icy lake. Even the sound it made when we stepped on it, resembled that of stepping on ice. Well, it wasn’t. It was a gigantic field formed by salt crystals. They call it the devil’s golf course, as it’s said that only the devil can play golf on such a rough surface. Well, obviously we didn’t try it, but we guess the person who made this up is right!
Another salty place of interest is the Salt Water Basin, which looks like a huge frozen lake. Even though this was definitely a high for me, it is the lowest point of America, and if you stand on the lake and turn around towards the road 86 meters up the mountain you’ll spot a sign saying: SEA LEVEL.
