The rugged landscape that I imagined when thinking of Ireland came to life before me in the area of Slieve League Cliffs. The hard rocks, the soft green grass, a few sheep scattered along the fields. This is Ireland. And then…when you reach the top of the hill you are treated to a magnificent view: 600 meter high cliffs and a crystal clear but dark, wild ocean. Wow! Looking at the water from above is scary – thank god for the fences – and if you dare you can hike even higher up the hill. When you look down you’ll see the famous Giant’s desk and chair, but no matter how long we stayed to enjoy the view, the smell of the sea and the sounds of the crashing waves…we didn’t spot any giants. Maybe next time!
